Swimming Pool Emergency Rescue Award

The Swimming Pool Emergency Rescue Award is deisgned to assist individuals in responding to an emergency within the swimming pool environment when the alarm has been raised. Ideal for any member of the facility called upon to rescue, provide first aid or assist the lifeguard team.

Paragraph 113 of “Managing Health and Safety in Swimming Pools” (HSG 179) states that

When the pool is in use, there must be a safe system of work to identify a person in difficulty and ensure that a rescue can be performed. For example, in the absence of lifeguards, there should be a designated ‘on call’ competent staff to respond immediately to deal with any emergency”

The Swimming Pool Emergency Rescue Award is not intended to be used in place of a lifeguard qualification, such as the National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ). The NPLQ includes more detailed training and content to prepare someone supervise the pool directly.

What will you cover?

The Swimming Pool Emergency Rescue Award course is broken down into 3 sections:

1. Section One – The Emergency Rescuers Role, Pool Safety Operating Procedures and Safety Information
2. Section Two – Responding to an Emergency and the Emergency Action Plan
3. Section Three – CPR, First Aid and AED

An Emergency First Aid at Work and AED certificate can also be integrated into this course. Please get in touch to discuss your options.

Assessment & Certificate

To achieve the Swimming Pool Emergency Rescue Award, candidates must pass a formal assessment, where trainees demonstrate the skills and knowledge learned in the form of a practical assessment.

Qualification Renewal

The qualification is valid for two years from the date of assessment. To renew this qualification you should be assessed against all of the same learning outcomes and assessment criteria, which is achieved by attending the course again.
